If you watch as many talent shows as I do, you’ll soon realize that nothing beats a good surprise. It could be a young child with talent far beyond their years, someone who mixes genres to create something truly unique, or perhaps a contestant like Dan Lucas on The Voice Senior, who picks the perfect song and delivers it flawlessly.
In 1981, Steve Perry, Jonathan Cain, and Neal Schon wrote the iconic power ballad “Don’t Stop Believin’” for the American rock band Journey. When it was first released, it barely made it to number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. However, over time, it became a staple on classic rock radio and remains one of the best-selling tracks in iTunes history.
The song has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, including as the theme song for the final episode of the popular HBO series The Sopranos. It was named the best-selling catalog track on iTunes in 2009, and VH1 also named it the greatest song of the past 25 years that same year.
At 64 years old, Dan Lucas stepped onto The Voice Senior stage and instantly captivated the audience. Before pursuing music, he taught English and Russian. He went on to perform with various bands across the US, Canada, and Europe. This video clearly showcases Dan’s journey into the music world. Many people, including some of the judges, believe his performance of this song was what helped him win the season of The Voice Senior. After watching the full performance, we’d love to hear your thoughts in a comment on Facebook!
