President-elect Donald Trump has revealed a striking agreement with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, stating she has vowed to take immediate action to halt illegal migration into the United States. This surprising move could mark a major turning point in addressing the ongoing border crisis, a key issue that fueled Trump’s campaign promises.

“Mexico has agreed to stop illegal crossings at our Southern Border starting immediately,” Trump announced on Truth Social. “This is a tremendous step toward ending the unlawful invasion of our country. Thank you to President Sheinbaum!” He later elaborated on their discussions in a follow-up post.

“I had an exceptional conversation with Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Mexico’s new president,” Trump wrote. “She’s committed to preventing migration through Mexico into the U.S., effectively securing the border. We also addressed combating the flow of drugs into America and reducing their domestic use. It was a highly productive dialogue!”

President Sheinbaum confirmed the talks and outlined her government’s efforts to handle migration internally. “I had a positive discussion with President Trump,” she wrote on X. “I assured him that migrant caravans are being intercepted and addressed well before reaching the northern border.”

If Mexico follows through, the move could dramatically decrease the influx of migrants entering the U.S., which has seen nearly 11 million border encounters since 2021, according to federal figures.

In addition to border security, Trump announced a new campaign to combat fentanyl abuse in the U.S. “We’ll launch a major initiative to inform Americans about the dangers of fentanyl,” he stated. “Millions of lives have been ruined by this deadly drug.”

Although Sheinbaum initially criticized Trump’s tariff threats, she later called their conversation “constructive” and “encouraging,” hinting at strengthened cooperation ahead.
