The Parton family is grieving the loss of David Wilburn Parton, Dolly Parton’s older brother, who passed away at the age of 82. His death, announced by his sister Stella Parton on November 15, marks the loss of another beloved member of the close-knit family.
Sharing the news on social media, Stella wrote, “This morning, my brother David left us peacefully. While I know he has found peace and his angel wings, saying goodbye is never easy.” She expressed similar sentiments on Facebook and Threads, calling him an “amazing soul” and promising to always cherish his memory.
An obituary revealed that David passed away in his home in White Pine, Tennessee, though no cause of death was provided. Unlike his superstar sister, Dolly, David lived a private life, choosing a career as a superintendent and bridge builder for Simpson Construction. He contributed to many projects across Knoxville, Johnson City, and Kingsport, Tennessee.
David leaves behind a legacy of love and family. Married to his wife, Kay, for 45 years, he is survived by their two daughters, Donna and Dena, as well as Lucas, a nephew described as a “nephew/son,” and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As the second eldest of 11 Parton siblings, David’s passing follows the loss of his brothers Randy, who died in 2021, and Floyd, who passed in 2018. His surviving siblings include Willadeene, Coy, Dolly, Robert Jr., Stella, Cassie, Freida, and Rachel.
A funeral service will take place at Leadvale Baptist Church in White Pine on November 19, where family and friends will come together to honor his life.
Though David remained out of the limelight, his contributions to his family and community left a lasting impression. The Parton family’s deep faith continues to be a source of strength as they remember him and the quiet, meaningful life he lived.
